Willamette Valley Chamber Music Festival at Archery Summit

$85 per person

Is there an experience more unique than enjoying the acoustics of Archery Summit’s barrel caves, dug directly into the red hills of Dundee?

Our final program begins with Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart’s String Quartet No. 23 in F Major, K. 590, his last work for string quartet. Composed in the final months of his life, the music is both exuberant and gorgeous – in spite of his personal difficulties, this final quartet seems to embody the sheer joy of being alive.

Next we bring you Composer-in-Residence Kareem Roustom’s String Quartet No. 1: Shades of Night, which is a vibrant and coloristic representation of nine Arabic words for different stages of night – beginning with the wind-down of sunset and ending with the optimism of the following dawn.

To conclude the third program and the 2023 Festival season is the West Coast premiere of Songs for a Shared Space by Portland-based violist and composer Kenji Bunch. Kenji pulls inspiration from many sources in this exciting new work, ranging from Afro-Cuban grooves to Mozart, and the various styles and layered textures offer a soulful glimpse into the complexities and intricacies of multiple cultures and generations living under one roof. Kenji himself will join us on viola for this season closer.
