Top 100 Wines of 2006: #29 Oregon sweltered through a hot summer in 2003, but the Arcus Estate vineyard produced a wine of extraordinary balance. ... Those who achieved a nice balance made some gorgeous wines, such as the dense and dramatic Archery Summit Pinot Noir Willamette Valley Arcus Estate 2003, its whoosh of raspberry, red plum and cherry flavors hardly slowed by the mouthcoating tannins.
Wine Spectator July 31, 2006
95 Points/Highly Recommended Dense and dramatic, with layers and layers of raspberry, red plum and cherry flavors that form a tight ball and whoosh through the finish, hardly slowed by mouthcoating tannins. This has tremendous style and depth. Best from 2008 through 2015.
Chicago Tribune September 13, 2006
3 Stars/Very Good Smooth, smooth, smooth, with just the right amount of black pepper to keep things interesting. A bit tannic, a bit smoky and elegantly spiced. Serve with seared salmon and wild mushrooms, lamb loin chops with rosemary.
The Wine News September 2006
92 points Port-like aromas of fig, date, molasses and minerals. Concentrated, extracted, supple flavors of blackberry, coffee, chocolate and vanilla, not particularly varietal, but enjoyable nonetheless. Seamless finish despite the wine's heft.
Ultimate (a supplement to The Oregonian) October 22, 2006
The "A" List of Northwest Wines Archery Summit offers several bottlings or cuvées. The most collectible -- and arguably the best -- is from their Arcus vineyard. Lush, intense, even opulent pinot noir, it's consistently striking.
Northwest Palate July/August 2006
Highly Recommended Assertive scents of minty red fruits and minerals greet the nose, while a dense combination of chewy cherry, berry and plum fruit dances on the tongue. Nuances of chocolate and spice add complexity, while focus and fine tannin provide power.
Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar May/June 2006
90 points Deep ruby. Oak spice-driven bouquet incorporates creme de cassis, candied blackberry, vanilla, mocha and graphite. Round, supple and fat, with powerful, very sweet dark berry flavors and strong accents of Asian spices and vanilla bean. Firms up on the finish, showing solid but well-knit tannins. Fans of the lush, weighty school of pinot will really go for this.
