1996 Archery Summit Estate Pinot Noir

 Description   Press Acclaim

ORIGIN: We are pleased to present this inaugural release of exquisite Pinot Noir blended from estate vineyards surrounding our winery in the Red Hills of Dundee. 1996 Archery Summit Estate is the quintessential Oregon Pinot Noir marked with the elegance and craftsmanship of Burgundian tradition.

VINEYARD: All grapes from this single vineyard with primarily a south to southwest exposure come from clones 115 and 113. The very steep Jory soil contributes to the great ripeness of fruit and depth of the wine. The fruit was thinned to 2.2 tons per acre to develop intense, concentrated flavors and hand harvested in mid October 1996.

WINEMAKING: Crafted in our 100% gravity flow facility, this wine was vinified by cold soaking the grapes with 30% whole clusters and native yeast fermentation. The cap was gently punched down one to three times per day. After aging in 100% new, heavily toasted François Frères French oak barrels for 15 months, the wine was bottled in February 1998, unfined and unfiltered.

TASTING NOTES: Black cherries, cassis, exotic spices, minerals, floral and rich oak aromas announce this complex and powerful Pinot Noir. A rich, intense texture with structure and grace unites to complement the ripe tannins and fruits evolving to a wide mid-palate for a long finish. This wine will grow even more graceful with extended cellaring for at least ten years and is destined to become a necessity for serious collectors.

The vintage produced 795 (750ml) four-bottle cases.
