2000 Renegade Ridge Estate Pinot Noir

 Description   Press Acclaim

ORIGIN: This wine is the second release from our estate vineyard, Renegade Ridge, found adjacent to the winery and our Archery Summit Estate vineyard. Renegade Ridge Estate exhibits distinctly balanced, deep textured flavors and aromas.

VINEYARD: The grapes were hand harvested from our narrowly spaced, high-density estate vineyards planted in Jory soil on a southeast-facing ridge. This site was planted in 1996 with specially selected Dijon clones 114, 667 and 777 on unique rootstocks and harvested at only 2.2 tons per acre. The yields from this vintage were exceptionally low and the fruit was very concentrated and ripe.

WINEMAKING: Fermentation of the 2000 Renegade Ridge was conducted in traditional Archery Summit style, using 22% whole clusters in tanks which were soaked and punched down 1-3 times a day. Only native yeasts were used to create a complex, intense and supple wine. Malolactic fermentation was conducted in barrel and the wine was racked only once utilizing a gravity system. The wine was aged in 100% new French oak barrels for 11 months. Moved through our facility entirely by gravity to protect the characteristics of the delicate Pinot Noir grape, the 2000 Renegade Ridge was bottled without fining or filtration in August of 2001.

TASTING NOTES: Dark red/purple in hue, this wine delivers layered aromas of rich, ripe cassis, blackberries, raspberries, ripe Bing cherries and exotic spices. The 2000 Renegade Ridge is extremely well balanced, elegant and concentrated. Deep and rich, this wine has a lush and broad mid-palate that leads to a long finish. Ripe tannins support a massive amount of sweet ripe fruit. This forward and approachable estate bottled Pinot Noir boasts outstanding color, aromatics, flavor and depth, and may be consumed now or cellared for 6-9 years.
