ORIGIN: A true marriage of Burgundian clones and tradition with Oregon terroir is displayed in this exquisite Pinot Noir blended from the estate vineyard surrounding our winery in the Red Hills of Dundee. The 2000 Archery Summit Estate is the culmination of our extensive research in establishing the best combinations of vines, rootstock, soils and microclimates and exemplifies our continued pursuit to craft America’s premier Pinot Noir.
VINEYARD: All grapes from this single estate vineyard, with south to southwest exposure, come from Dijon clones 113, 114, 115 and 777. The grapes were harvested in early October. The remarkable Indian summer of 2000 allowed us to harvest the grapes at the peak of their physiological ripeness. The steep terrain, dense plantings and Jory soil also contributed to the great ripeness of fruit and depth of the wine.
WINEMAKING: The grapes were hand sorted and fermented using only indigenous yeast and controlled temperatures. We used 45% whole clusters to complement the ripe fruit. The wine was aged in 100% new French oak barrels for 16 months, and was moved throughout our facility from harvest to bottle entirely by gravity to ensure only the most delicate handling. Bottling was conducted without fining or filtration in February 2002.
TASTING NOTES: This intense scarlet wine offers upfront aromas of marion berry, violets, anise, exotic spice and braised meat. It virtually explodes on the palate with wild berries, cinnamon, sandalwood, and earth. Broad luscious tannins give this wine power and presence. Complex layering of flavor and texture give it grace. The finish is long and lingering with dried cherry, spiced plum, blueberry and mineral. The 2000 Archery Summit Estate Pinot Noir is a wine of distinction and with proper cellaring is destined to become a necessity for serious collectors.
This vintage produced 3,456 bottles, available in our unique six-bottle box. It is also offered in 3-liter bottles in limited quantities.
